OTTUMWA —
The Bulldog girls golf team breezed to a dual victory over Washington Thursday, shooting a 185 to their opponent’s 241.
“It’s a great way to prepare for regionals,” Ottumwa girls golf coach Stephanie Carroll said.
Bulldog Whitney Dostal shot the lowest round of the day with a 44 to earn meet medalist honors.
“I was putting and driving and chipping well, so I was happy with that today,” Dostal said.
Still, Dostal wasn’t exactly doing cartwheels over her performance.
“There were a few holes I could have improved on; I took too many shots getting to the green,” she said. “The rest of the holes I played were fine, but they weren’t anything great.”
Right behind Dostal was Darby Patritto, who shot a 45. Kelsey Nickerson followed Patritto with a round of 47.
“There are certain little things I need to improve on, but overall it was all right,” Nickerson said.
She said her putting game could use some sharpening up before the Bulldog’s host the Class 4A Regional Meet Monday. Nickerson said she will give it her best shot Monday and “whatever happens happens.”
Sarah Stabile wasn’t pleased with her round of 49.
“I had one hole that was just bad; and the rest of them were not horrible,” Stabile said, “But I didn’t have a good hole. I just felt like I could never get two good shots in a row.”
Stabile, however, said she stills feels good about her chances Monday.
Ottumwa’s Callie Lawson shot a 52 and Bulldog Abbie Budan finished right behind her with a 53.
“Callie, Abbie and Whitney played really well today,” Carroll said.
The Bulldog girls host the Class 4A Regional meet Monday at Ottumwa Country Club. Representing the Bulldogs at the meet will be Dostal, Patritto, Lawson, Nickerson, Stabile and Budan.
“We’re bringing it Monday,” Dostal said.
Carroll said she hopes her team is up for the challenge.
“We need to come ready to play and take advantage of the first three holes,” she said. “It’s a lot easier to carry on after three good holes than after three difficult holes. I think it’s important to get off to a good start.”
