AREA PREP FOOTBALL ACTION: Roberts has four scores in Mustang win

OTTUMWA — Colton Roberts rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns as the Davis County football team took a 42-8 win over Central Lee in non-district action Friday night.

Calvin Utt and Spencer Bassett also added scoring runs for Davis County, which improves to 5-1 overall. Bassett finished with 98 rushing yards as the Mustangs accumulated 425 yards on the ground in the victory.

“That may be the best overall game we’ve played this season,” said Davis County coach Joe Rassmussen. “It was only 14-0 at the half, but our boys came out and took care of business in the second half.”

The Mustangs return to Class 2A, District 6 play next week when they will host district leader Bondurant-Farrar in a matchup that has district title implications.

Osky falls in shootout with Keokuk

OSKALOOSA — The Oskaloosa football team came up short in a shootout with Keokuk in Class 3A non-district football action Friday night, falling to the Chiefs, 35-28.

Osky’s Nate Van Veldhuizen ran for two touchdowns and Austin Redlich and Andrew Landgrebe each added a score, but Keokuk was Matt Nye — who rushed for 242 yards and two scores, while Dan Williams grabbed a pair of scoring passes from Gabe Vandenberg.

Landgrebe finished with 142 yards on 14 carries while Jared Pace added 70 rushing yards for Osky (1-5, 1-3), who will host Winterset next week.
