OTTUMWA —
The Indian Hills volleyball team came home with four hard-fought victories this weekend in action at the Kishwaukee Tournament, held at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill.
On Thursday, the Warriors snapped a two-match losing streak by winning two matches, sweeping Carl Sandburg before edging South Suburban in a five-set thriller.
On Friday, Indian Hills came away with a 3-1 win over Harper College and a 3-2 win over Kishwaukee.
“This weekend we were still dealing with some sickness and injuries,” said IHCC coach Lyndsey Lyon. “It was a little bit of a roller-coaster — we saw a lot of inconsistency and had more errors than we are used to. We need to overcome those.”
In the 3-1 win over Harper, the scores were 21-25, 25-23, 25-9 and 25-23. Carla Novaes and Peyton Crosser had 10 kills each for IHCC while Cris Vosconcoles added nine kills and three blocks. Novaes also had three ace serves, while Ailime deFreitas set things up with 43 assists and Jessica Black came up with 20 digs.
Against Kishwaukee, the scores were 25-23, 25-18, 11-25, 23-25 and 15-9. Novaes had 10 kills while Shelby Lauterbach had 10. deFreitas contributed 48 assists and was 24-24 serving, while Black had 21 digs.
The Warriors (24-7) will travel to Kirkwood on Tuesday.
