DES MOINES —
The Ottumwa volleyball team fell to CIML Metro foe Des Moines Roosevelt for the second time in four days Tuesday, losing to the Roughriders 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-18) in it’s last regular season game of the season.
The loss ruined any chances Ottumwa had of tying for second with Roosevelt and Des Moines Lincoln in the Metro conference. Yet, Bulldog volleyball coach Jessica Carson was proud of her team in spite of the loss.
“We served well and we did a great job on defense getting the ball up,” she said. “There’s honestly nothing I can complain about; it just didn’t fall in our direction. “The girls played very well. They played hard and left it on the floor.”
Senior middle hitter Katie Sammons, as she has done for most of the season, paced Ottumwa with 16 kills. Senior setter Beth Overturf led the Bulldogs with 11 assists and sophomore Chloe Davis added nine assists. Libero Olivia Roark had a team-leading 23 digs and Sammons and freshman outside hitter Ellie Hammack each had two blocks. Ottumwa’s was nearly flawless on serves, going 57-58.
The Bulldogs (16-19) begin Class 5A Regional play Thursday, Oct. 25 at Burlington. If they prevail, they will compete in the regional finals Tuesday at Iowa City West.
