It was an incredible start to the postseason for the Eddyville-Blakesburg softball squad on Thursday. After setting down Van Buren in order in their Class 2A Regional First Round match-up, the Rockets ran off 10 runs in the bottom of the first on the way to a 14-2, three-inning win over the Warriors.
“We really came up focused at the plate. We played with great intensity,” E-B head softball coach Tony Fenton said. “I’m glad we got this first one under our belts.”
Several players came up big for the Rockets. Shelby Allgood joined Tasha and Tarah Alexander in going 2-2 with a double, with Allgood driving in three runs while the Alexander duo combined to scored five times in the win.
Sophomore Payten Hughes finished the night with a hit and a run for Van Buren. Hughes also pitched the 2 2/3 innings for the Warriors, who finish the season with a record of 10-18.
E-B, 13-14 on the season, is back on the diamond in a Class 2A Regional Second Round match up at Cardinal tonight.
