SPRINGFIELD, Ill. —
The Indian Hills volleyball team early-season winning streak will be put to the test today with a busy second day at the Lincoln Land Tournament.
The Warriors extended that streak to four straight victories on Friday in their opening match of the tournament, sweeping Joliet with a consistent 25-17, 25-17, 25-16 win.
“We did kind of get off to a slow start, but we did really well all night putting the ball down,” IHCC head volleyball coach Lyndsey Lyon said. “Defensively, we played great. We did a good job in the middle of the court and Ailmee (deFreitas) did a great job dispersing the volleyball to our hitters.”
The Warrior setter collected 36 assists while also having a perfect 13-13 serving day with five aces. Arika Johnson, Carla Novaes and Emily Eswonia all had eight kills with Eswonia added nine digs in the back row.
Cristaine Vosconcoles added a 15-16 serving effort as IHCC made 75 of 87 serves with 10 aces. Former Ottumwa Bulldog Peyton Crosser collected a team-best three blocks for IHCC, who take a 5-1 record into a busy three-match Saturday of play in the Lincoln Land Tournament as the Warriors open play against Lincoln Land, Lakeland and Rend Lake at 8 a.m.
“We’ve got to look to keep up our intensity and our level of play,” Lyon said. “There will be some tough teams, but we will hope to continue to play well.”
