Comets open season with a win
MORAVIA — The Cardinal girls basketball team had a successful opening game for the 2009 season with a 45-34 win over Moravia Friday night.
Chelsea Greiner led all players with 13 points, including three 3-point field goals for Cardinal. Junior forward Sam Nickle added 12 points to the Comets start the season at 1-0.
“Cardinal can really shoot the ball, and played great man to man defense,” said Moravia head coach Clint Woodward.
Moravia, who is returning just two starters from last year’s squad, turned the ball over 22 times.
Freshmen Katlynn Tracy played her first varsity game and had eight points, 11 rebounds, and nine blocks.
“We’re young and we need to protect the ball better,” said Woodward. “But I was impressed with Tracy tonight.”
Moravia (0-1) will play at Melcher-Dallas Dec. 1. The Comets (1-0) will play Danville next Tuesday at home.
