Warriors tumble at Kirkwood

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Indian Hills basketball team has hosted five home games this season, and converted them into five wins, resulting in a perfect, unblemished 5-0 record.

But the Warriors weren’t playing at home Tuesday night.

Instead, the Warriors traveled to Cedar Rapids to face the Kirkwood Eagles (3-1), who sent the Warriors back to Ottumwa with their first loss of the season. Kirkwood took a 66-55 victory over the previously undefeated Warriors.

Indian Hills fell behind 10 points before halftime and was never able to climb back into the game. The score at half was 35-25 in favor of Kirkwood.

Brandon Garrett, who led the Warriors with 21 points in a 83-79 victory over Ellsworth last Saturday, ended with just five points but added five rebounds. Only Dijon Farr and Bruno Ferreira crashed the glass better, both players had six rebounds on the night.

Kirkwood, who is coming off of a NJCAA Division II championship, won the battle of the boards against the Warriors. The Eagles ended the night with 35 rebounds, IHCC had 27.

Trevell Rivers’ double-double led the way for Kirkwood. Rivers ended the night with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kaylon Williams, who transferred to Kirkwood after playing a season a Division I school Evansville in Indiana, added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Eagles.
