Bulldogs swept by Marshalltown

OTTUMWA — MARSHALLTOWN — The Ottumwa Bulldogs (14-18) baseball squad committed 11 errors in 12 innings of play on Monday as they dropped two games to Marshalltown, 6-2 and 16-4.

“We played really flat toward the end of the first game and throughout the second game,” said Ottumwa coach Mike Egbert.

Jarrod Swallow and Seth Jones were charged with the losses for the Bulldogs on the mound.

Zach Throckmorton drilled a home run in the first game while Ben Lott, Jones and Ben Ryder doubled in the 6-2 loss.

Lott continued to hit well into game two as he recorded two of the Bulldogs’ eight hits and an RBI. Brandon Enloe doubled and notched an RBI along with Seth Jones, who smacked two hits.

The sweep comes four days before the Bulldogs open Class 4A, Region 7 play with Indianola Friday.

Marshalltown downed Indianola 13-10 on July 3. Currently Marshalltown is 14-18.

“We need to get back to fundamentals and get back to doing things the way we’re supposed to,” said Egbert.

The matchup between Ottumwa and Indianola will start at 7 p.m. Friday at Legion Memorial Field in Ottumwa.
