Legion team falls at state tourney
ESTHERVILLE — The Ottumwa American Legion baseball team ended its season on Saturday with a 15-5 loss to Johnson County at the state tournament, held in Estherville.
Johnson County pounded out 16 hits while Ottumwa just managed two. The Ottumwa team wraps up the summer with a 13-14 overall record.
“We didn’t hit the ball well,” said Legion coach John Hart. “You can’t expect to win a game with just two hits. We gave it our best tray, I guess.”
Dubuque County, Iowa Lakes and Cedar Rapids were all still alive Sunday at the five-team double-elimination tournament.
Bryce Frueh doubled and had a pair of RBI for Ottumwa. Jay Olson also had two RBI, while Justin Garman had Ottumwa’s only other hit in the contest.
