AREA BOYS BASKETBALL ACTION: Rockets soar past Twin Cedars

OTTUMWA — The Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont boys team got points from an array of sources in its 65-54 win over Twin Cedars Monday.

Christian Bambrook scored 17 points and grabbed 11 boards and Trevor Swartz added 16 points and dished out five assists. Trevor Leffler compiled 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and swatted a team-high three shots.

“Both Bambrook and Leffler did an outstanding job rebounding tonight,” Rocket coach Travis Stout said.

EBF’s Jevin Jensen and Christopher Welch chipped in with eight points each. The Rockets sank 11 of 12 free throws.

“Our free throw shooting, especially in the fourth quarter, was just outstanding and it was definitely one of the keys to victory.”

Dylan Springer led Twin Cedars with 16 points, Otis Roby added 15 and Eric Clark chipped in 10.

Twin Cedars (5-5) plays Tuesday at Melcher-Dallas in a Bluegrass Conference game. EBF plays  (6-4, 0-4) plays tonight at Fairfield in a non-conference game.

Sigourney 51,  BGM 43

BROOKLYN — Vaclav Bujnoch scored 23 points and pulled down 13 boards to help Sigourney defeat BGM 51-43 Monday.

Bujnoch’s monster game was complemented by Brandon Stuhr, who scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high 16 rebounds. Jackson Davis added nine points and knocked down two 3-pointers.

“We had a big run to start the third quarter,” Savage coach Mitch Eslick.

The run was spurred by consecutive 3-pointers by the Sigourney, Eslick said, and the Savages led 44-36 going into the final quarter.

Sigourney (8-2, 8-2) play tonight at Iowa Valley in Marengo in a South Iowa Cedar Conference game.
