OTTUMWA —
Morgan Heckart will join an elite group of softball players in Akron, Ohio this August.
Heckart, a catcher for the Wichita Mustangs, a nationally-ranked traveling program; will be one of 64 players to compete in the All-American Games from Aug. 9-12 in Akron. The games, which feature the top unsigned college prospects in the country, is put on by Fast Pitch Scouting Report, a scouting agency for Fastpitch Softball. Additionally, Heckart has been selected as a Fastpitch Scouting Report All-American by the scouting agency.
Heckart started the 2012 season with the Ottumwa Bulldogs before switching to the Mustangs in mid-June. She is batting .308 with two home runs and 16 RBI. Fast Pitch rates her as the 11th ranked unsigned prospect in the country.
The Mustangs are ranked No. 14 in the TC/National Softball rankings. Stace Heckart, Morgan’s dad, said some of her daughter’s teammates have agreed to play for Divison I teams like Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma and Iowa.
Before her current stint with the Mustangs, Heckart played for another traveling team: The Iowa Blitz. Her participation on both these teams has allowed her to travel all over the country to numerous softball events.
Heckart will live with a host family during the summer seasons, but she will finish her last two high school years at Ottumwa High School.
