AMES —
The Ottumwa boys’ golf team finished fifth out of 13 teams at the Turk Bowman Invitational on a windy Monday at the Ames Country Club with a score of 324.
Matt Walker was first for Ottumwa and tenth overall with a round 76 — which was four over par. Walker’s round ended up being four off the lead — Waukee’s Mike Woofter finished atop the pack with a 76.
Woofter’s round spearheaded the Warriors’ first place finish; they ended up with 294 points. West Des Moines Valley claimed second with 299.
Bulldog coach Scott Maas said his golfers were not playing their best golf.
“We’re just going to try to learn from it and try to improve next time we play in the wind,” the coach said. “We could have done better at almost all parts of the game.”
Ottumwa’s Braxton Coble took 16th with a round of 79 and Joe Wetrich finished 44th with a round of 84. Dillon Patritto finished 52nd with an 85 and Jacob Gardner shot a round of 86. Hoyt Grooms took 75th with a 90.
The Bulldogs play Des Moines East today at the Ottumwa Country Club.
