PHOENIX, Ariz.. —
The Indian Hills baseball team got off to a good start and a 5-0 lead on Thursday but allowed seven runs through the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 9-8 loss to Cochise College in Phoenix, Ariz.
Adam Deneke batted 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI for Indian Hills, as the Falcons haven’t been able to find a way to win close games on their southern trip. Junior Santos and Kecin Cicali each batted 3-for-5 with a double, while Tyler Hermann batted 3-for-4 and Edgar Lebron belted a triple.
Sam Ross was tagged with the loss on the mound, allowing six runs through just over four innings of work, fanning three before giving way to Jose Marin on the mound. Only four of the runs charged to Ross were earned. Marin did not allow a hit over two and one-third innings but walked four and allowed two runs, one earned, while fanning two. Logan Mallek worked the final inning and one-third, allowing one unearned run.
The Falcons (1-6) had two games scheduled on Friday and two more in Arizona today. Indian Hills will return home next week and open the home season on Thursday against Ellsworth at Pat Daugherty Field in Centerville.
