FAIRFIELD —
The Albia wrestling team took a win over Oskaloosa and a loss to Fairfield in double-dual action at Fairfield Tuesday night.
Results of the dual between Fairfield and Oskaloosa were not available.
The Blue Demons went 7-1 in head-to-head matchups in a 37-30 win over Osky. Against Fairfield, too many open weights proved too much for Albia to overcome, as Fairfield handed Albia a 52-29 loss headed into the holiday break.
“We are really looking forward to taking a much needed break,” said Albia coach Dave Wenger. “Over the course of the next few weeks we will be able to get some guys healthy and down to weight so we can make a strong run to the postseason.”
Bobby Belzer (132), Blake Lawless (138), Hugh Sinclair (145), Griffin Osing (152), Brett Leshen (160), and Tim Cole (285) all scored bonus points against Osky, which proved to be the difference. Shadow Leshen (120) also won by 12-5 decision over Osky’s Skyler DeJong. Osky’s Andrew Landgrebe won by fall at 170 pounds.
Fairfield claimed wins by Ammon Shaner (138), Aaron Gevock (145), Austin Franciso (170), Brett Scott (195) and Jacob Mineart (HWT).
Blue Demon wrestlers Shadow Leshen (120), Griffin Osing (152) and Brett Leshen (160) all took big wins for Albia and each remained unbeaten. The three wrestlers are 52-0 going into the break.
“This team has unlimited potential if we can get guys spread out a bit,” said Wenger.
