AREA PREP FOOTBALL ACTION: Fourth quarter miscues sink Osky

OSKALOOSA — Down 21-14 in the closing minutes and driving for a potential game-tying score, suddenly everything went wrong for the Oskaloosa football team.

Winterset scored twice off turnovers and once on a Noah Kaldenberg 26-yard run — all three times in the final three minutes — as Winterset took a 40-14 win over Osky in Class 3A, District 8 play.

Winterset’s C.J. Caudie grabbed an Austin Redlich pass and rumbled 66 yards for a “pick six,” and later Winterset’s Ryan Scheetz scooped up and Osky fumble on a kickoff return and hustled in from seven yards.

Kaldenberg led all rushers with 157 yards on the ground. Winterset also scored on short runs by Tanner Porter and Alex Forge in the first quarter, and made it 21-7 in the second quarter when Trey Gilliand caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Cory Briney.

Osky had gotten on the board with a 9-yard run by Nate Van Veldhuizen, and the Indians made it 21-14 at the half on a two-yard scoring run by Redlich.

Van Veldhuizen led Osky with 86 yards on the ground.

The Indians (1-3, 1-6) will be back in action next week at Pella.
