OTTUMWA —
Tyler Albert opened the game with an 84-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and Jonathan Pedersen rushed for 140 yards and three touchdowns as the Cardinal football team dumped Danville 55-16 in non-district football action Friday night.
Albert added a pair of fourth-quarter scoring runs while Dakota Showman threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Potts and ran for another score as the Comets were hitting on all cylinders.
“I told the kids after the game I was very impressed and very proud of them,” Adam Hadenfeldt. “Our kids came out very focused and fired up and ready to play. It feels very good to be 2-0.”
Showman finished with 115 yards on the ground for Cardinal, who opens district play next week at home against Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Lynnville-Sully blanks E-B-F
EDDYVILLE — Lynnville-Sully took a 21-0 victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in non-district football action Friday night.
Blake Marloff had 34 yards rushing to lead E-B-F while Trevor Swartz passed for 72 yards, 51 of those to Chance Wurstra on three catches. Wurstra also led the defense with 12 tackles.
“We didn’t seem like we were ready to play. We had a lot of penalties,” said E-B-F coach Eric Kellar. “We have to cut down on our penalities.”
The Rockets (1-1) will travel to Cardinal to open district play next Friday.
Moravia can’t recover from tough first quarter

MORAVIA — The Moravia football team couldn’t recover after a rough first quarter in its 50-7 Eight-Player loss to HLV Friday.
The Warriors piled on 34 points to Moravia’s seven in the first quarter and never looked back.
Cole Landorf rushed for two touchdowns and Tanner Strudthoff returned a kickoff 68-yards for a touchdown in the HLV victory.
Spenser Stufflebeam’s 6-yard run was the Mohawks’ only touchdown of the night.
“We felt like our players didn’t do the basics the way we teach them,” Moravia coach Denny Whitlow said.
The Mohawks (0-3, 0-1) play Tri-County at home Friday.

OSKALOOSA — Grinnell’s Eli Dunne tossed for 209 yards and four touchdowns Friday night in a 50-7 win over Oskaloosa in non-district football action.
Grinnell shot out to a 29-0 first quarter lead and Oskaloosa couldn’t bounce back. A 27-yard scoring pass from Jesse Van Dalen to Tyce Sarver in the second quarter was all the scoring the Indians could muster.
Osky (0-2) will travel to Carlisle next week to open Class 3A district play.
