BURLINGTON —
The Ottumwa girls bowling team scored wins over two more opponents, including outdueling one of their main rivals for last year’s 2A state championship.
The defending state champ Bulldogs edged Muscatine, who finished third behind Ottumwa and Cedar Rapids Jefferson last year in Des Moines, by 216 pins. The Bulldogs rolled a team score of 2,797, besting Muscatine’s 2,581 total and the host Burlington’s score of 1,830.
Bailey Palmer led the way for Ottumwa, rolling a 198 average at King Pin Lanes on Friday. Sydney Swallow followed closely for the Bulldogs with a 191 average.
The Ottumwa boys could not quite make a clean sweep for the Bulldogs. Muscatine edged out Ottumwa for the win by just 136 pins with a score of 2,833 to Ottumwa’s 2,697. The Bulldog boys barely edged out Burlington, who finished with a team score of 2,542.
Ryan Hagist led the way for the Ottumwa, rolling a 212 average. Both Bulldog junior varsity squads beat Muscatine and Burlington with Cybil Lennie’s 176 average leading the Ottumwa JV girls to a 2,172 score while Shane Wolfley’s 208 average led the Bulldog boys JV to a 2,582 total.
Both the Ottumwa girls (5-0) and boys (3-2) will return home for action at Champion Bowl on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. against Mount Pleasant.
