OTTUMWA —
Even though the Indian Hills basketball team won both of its games this past week, the Warriors still dropped two spots in the latest NJCAA Division I rankings, from 10th to 12th.
A week ago, the Warriors dropped from from fourth to 10th in the poll after an overtime road loss at the College of Southern Idaho, IHCC’s only loss this season. Since then, IHCC has taken hard-fought wins at home against Ellsworth (102-90) and on the road at Kirkwood (95-88).
Two Kansas schools jumped ahead of the Warriors. Barton College (12-0) moved from 11th to 10th while Coffeyville (9-1) moved from 12th to 11th.
The Warriors are 9-1 on the season and will return to action with the PCS Classic at the Hellyer Student Life Center in Ottumwa this weekend, with Malcolm X taking on IHCC on Friday night and Independence (Kan.) on the slate for the Warriors on Saturday.
There was little change in the top 10 teams, as South Plains, Texas (10-0), Northwest Florida State (9-0) and Howard, Texas (9-0) remained the top three. Vincennes University (9-0) of Indiana inexplicitly dropped two spots in the rankings from fourth to sixth even though they were 2-0 over the last week. Hutchinson, Kansas (12-0) moved from fifth to fourth and Chipola, Florida moved from sixth to fifth.
IHCC is finding some company among rivals in the rankings. Iowa Western (11-0) jumped from ninth to seventh in the rankings, while Marshalltown (11-0) debuted in the Top 25 at 21st. Both teams will be fighting with the Warriors for the Region XI crown.
The Warriors will host Iowa Western on Jan. 19 and will travel to Council Bluffs to take on the Reivers on Feb. 9. IHCC travels to Marshalltown on Jan. 26 and will host Marshalltown on Feb. 23. The Warriors will also play at 20th-ranked Central Arizona on New Year’s night.
