KEOSAUQUA —
Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont picked up a pair of dual victories over Albia and Van Buren Thursday.
The Rockets thrashed the Blue Demons 52-18 and they hammered Van Buren 78-0. Albia toppled Van Buren 54-30 in the other dual Thursday.
Rocket Tucker Black won a 16-2 major decision over Blue Demon Hugh Sinclair in the 145 pound class and E-B-F’s Jeren Glosser pinned Bobby Belzer at 126 pounds. In addition, E-B-F’s Jason Crosby defeated Albia’s Caleb White 1-0 in the 138 pound class and Rocket Chance Wursta also won a 1-0 decision over Zach Davis in the heavyweight division.
The Blue Demons got some solid performances out of a few of their wrestlers despite the lopsided defeat. Albia’s Shadow Leshen pinned Adam Proctor at 120 pounds and Griffin Osing pinned Cory Archer two minutes into their match at 160 pounds. Plus, Blue Demon Brett Leshen managed to pin Colton Snakenberg in the 170 pound class.
“EBF has a very solid and well coached team,” Blue Demon coach Dave Wenger said. “They will make a lot of noise as the year goes on. Our lack of being able to fill all the weights hurt us badly tonight.”
The Blue Demons got three straight pins — at 132, 138, 152 (Sinclair won by forfeit at 145) — over the Warriors to help them defeat Van Buren.
Albia’s Bryce Leshen pinned Jacob Heisel at 132 pounds, Blue Demon White scored a pinfall victory over Warrior Hunter Coffman in the 138 pound class and Albia’s Blake Lawless pinned Samuel Dickinson in 152 in 1:20.
Van Buren’s Curtis Thomas scored a pinfall over Jacob West 55 seconds into their dual at 182.
“Bryce, Caleb, and Blake did a nice job bouncing back after tough losses in the opening dual,” Wenger said. “I was very happy with the way our team wrestled tonight. Unfortunately, we weren't able to come out on the winning side of those close matches. I really thought that we wrestled hard and we will continue to work on improving on the little things that it takes to win close matches.”
Against Van Buren, E-B-F’s Adam Proctor (120), Blake Marolf (132), Jason Crosby (138), Treg Van Dorin (152) and Dillon Pigsley (182) all won by fall.
E-B-F will compete at the Bondurant-Farrar tournament today. Albia and Van Buren will both compete at the Pekin tournament.
