Dakota Showman scored 23 points and dished six assists to lead four Comets in double figures as the Cardinal boys basketball team exploded in the second half on the way to a 77-41 blowout win over New London in Southeast Iowa SuperConference action on Friday.
Cardinal trailed 24-16 at the half, but enlightened the scoreboard with 35 points in the third quarter and outscored New London 61-17 after the halftime break.
Cody Carter scored 11 points for the Comets while Charlie Rachford and Jonathan Pedersen each added 10.
Cardinal (8-5, 7-4) will host West Burlington today.

Sigourney pulls away from Montezuma

MONTEZUMA — Vaclav Bujnoch sored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Sigourney boys basketball team exacted some revenge on Montezuma, pulling away for a 41-21 South Iowa Cedar League victory on Friday.
The win leaves Sigourney all alone in second place in the SICL, one-half game behind Lynnville-Sully. Both Sigourney and Montezuma had just two league losses going into Friday, while L-S had just one.
Sigourney pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Montezuma 18-8 in the frame. Montezuma had edged Sigourney 43-40 in action in early December.
Sigourney (12-2, 12-2) hosts North Mahaska at Tuesday.
