IHCC takes pair

WEST BURLINGTON — The Indian Hills volleyball took two wins Saturday to take three of four matches this weekend at the Southeastern Community College Tournament in West Burlington.

With a 3-1 victory of Kirkwood and a 3-0 sweep of host Southeastern, the Warriors now have a 3-1 record to open the season.

Against Kirkwood, the Warriors dropped the first game 17-25 before taking the next three contests by scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22.

Against SCC, IHCC swept by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-18.

Carla Novaes had 11 kills and three blocks for the Warriors against Kirkwood, while Emily Eswonia added 10 kills. Kaylee Scholten set things up with 32 assists while Jessica Black patrolled the back row with 27 digs. Kassidy Guiham came up with 17 digs and was 18-of-19 serving while Peyton Crosser was 28-30 serving with three aces.

Against Southeastern, Crosser had 11 kills while Eswonia had 10 kills, 15 digs and was 17-of-18 serving. Scholten had 41 set assists and was a perfect 12-of-12 from the service line while Black had 17 digs.

Indian Hills opened the spiker season with a pair of matches Friday night at the tournament, when the Warriors took a 3-0 win over Mineral Area before falling 3-1 to Iowa Central.

IHCC took the Mineral Area sweep Friday by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-16 before falling to Iowa Central, 25-20, 25-20, 18-25, 30-28.

The Warriors are back in action Tuesday at Iowa Lakes before heading to Illinois for the Lincoln Land Tournament this weekend. IHCC’s first home match will be Tuesday, Sept. 4 against Iowa Central at the Tom Arnold Net Center on the Indian Hills campus in Ottumwa.
