OTTUMWA — Indian Hills Community College basketball coach Barret Peery has announced the first two members of his recruiting class for next year.

Ronald Ross, a 6-4 guard from Indianapolis, Ind., and Richard Amardi, a 6-9 power forward from Toronto, Canada, have signed letters-of-intent with Indian Hills.

Both players have previous junior college experience. Ross played at Vincennes University and Amardi at Weatherford CC in Texas.

Ross was an honorable mention All-American after a freshman season at Vincennes in which he averaged 17.7 points, hit a team-high 68-154 3-pointers (44 percent) and led the team in free throw percentage at 74 percent (101-137). He had a 33-point game against Kankakee and played twice against Indian Hills, scoring 24 and 28 points in those two contests.

Peery says Ross can play point guard and can also play off the ball.

“I’m really excited about having Ronald here,” Peery said. “He’s a great kid with a ton of basketball experience. He should slide right in and play the spot where both Gary Ricks and Brandon Spearman played last year.”

“Ronald had a great freshman year and I think that will carry over here,” Peery added. “He is an excellent fit for how we want to play.”

The IHCC coach describes Amardi as ‘very active and very athletic.’

“Richard can play inside and outside and will be a four-man in our system,” Peery said. “He brings size, length and athleticism to our program. He is very focused and intense about his play and has a real chance to make an impact for us this season.”

Amardi played in 12 games for Weatherford in 2010-11 and averaged 13.4 points in those dozen games at the Texas school with one game of 32 points and 16 rebounds. He redshirted last year.
