NEWTON —
The Ottumwa boys swim team’s season got off to a promising start Tuesday, splitting a double dual with Southeast Polk and Newton.
Ottumwa slipped by Southeast Polk 48-45, but they fell to Newton 59-35. Grant Gullion gave the Bulldogs a big boost by taking first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.18. Ottumwa’s scores also were bolstered by the boys medley relay times. The Bulldogs 200 medley team finished second overall with a time of 2:03.62, and the 400 medley team placed second with 4:34.77. Michael Entyre helped the Bulldogs’ cause with a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle (26.84), and Adam Mueller snagged second in the 100 backstroke with 1:12.21.
