DES MOINES —
The Ottumwa baseball team split two games at Des Moines Lincoln Thursday in CIML action.
Despite a solid night at the plate by Blake Mooney in game one; the Bulldogs fell to Des Moines Lincoln 5-2. But Seth Griffiths went 3-for-4 with a triple to help propel the Bulldogs to a 9-6 win in game two.
Mooney, who started game one on the mound, bolstered Ottumwa’s offense by going 2-for-4 with two singles. Kyle Keck also did his part offensively for the Bulldogs; he went 2-for-4 as well.
Mooney started on the mound for Ottumwa in game one. He had a solid night, but he couldn’t overcome his team’s four errors. Mooney gave up only one earned run on eight hits in five and a third innings. Unfortunately for Ottumwa, the Railsplitters were able to capitalize on the Bulldogs mistakes — they scored four unearned runs.
The top of the Bulldogs’ order was a paragon of efficiency in game two. Besides Griffiths three hits, Collin Schulz, Kyle Keck, and Luke McIntosh also added two hits each for the Bulldogs. And Tyler Ollum had a monster game at the plate in the No. 6 spot, going 3-for-4.
Starting Ottumwa pitcher Keck picked up the win. He pitched all seven innings, allowed nine hits, struck out six and walked two.
The Bulldogs (14-10, 6-6) play at Mount Pleasant Friday.
