Davis County runners prevail at Lynnville-Sully meet

SULLY — The Davis County boys cross country team joined the Mustang girls team for some success in action Thursday night at the Lynnville-Sully Invitational.

While the girls took the top three individual places on the way to the team title, the Mustang boys secured the team’s first team title in 28 years as they won the meet with a low team score of 69 points.

Zach Hougland finished third overall in a time of 18:18 to set the pace for Davis County, while Clay Roberts finished 11th, Kody Smith was 15th and Justin Vollmer placed 17th. Christopher Welch of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont won the individual title with a time of 17:38, whole teammate Jack Hastings finished seventh.

Pella Christian finished second in the very close boys meet with 74 points while E-B-F was third at 76.

The Davis County girls scored another team championship winning the girls’ race with just 29 points Thursday night. CMB was a distant second with 63 team points.

The Mustangs scored the top three finishers in the race. Chandra Smith won the race with a time of 16:23. Ally McClure finished second with a time of 16:34 and Addie McKee was third with a time of 16:46.
