OTTUMWA —
In just a month, Main Street Ottumwa has received 32 applications for its director position.
“I was hoping for that many, but I thought it might be hard to get to that point in such a short time frame,” said MSO board president Fred Zesiger, since the position was posted in early December.
The organization has been without a director since former director Cindy Woodbury resigned in August.
The majority of applicants are from Iowa, and most of those are from the surrounding area, Zesiger said. But a few came from even farther away, including New Mexico, Virginia and California.
“I think we’re looking for the right person, but it all depends,” he said. “A person in the area could probably start sooner.”
The director is supposed to start on Feb. 11 and will be in charge of communications, marketing, working with MSO’s four committees and with downtown businesses, as well as monthly reporting.
“They’re the voice of Main Street,” he said.
Zesiger said it’s an exciting time for an applicant to jump into the position.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes, and hopefully shortly we’ll see some big things happening if things go the way I hope they do,” he said. “There’s a lot brewing so we’ll see how it goes.”
Applications for the position will be accepted through Jan. 18.
