OTTUMWA —
The new Kohl’s store needs to fill 125 positions, and the search begins this weekend.
“The job fair, from my understanding, is basically for part-time positions,” said Linda Rouse, operations director for Iowa WORKS Center in Ottumwa. “I believe they have already hired for the full-time and manager positions.”
The job fair, which will be held this Saturday and continue through to next Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the Iowa WORKS Center, will offer 125 positions, including register operators, department associates, customer service associates, early morning freight unloaders and evening ad set associates.
Applicants 17 years of age or older are encouraged to visit www.kohlscareers.com or call 877-639-5645 to schedule an interview and to obtain additional information regarding time and location.
“They don’t want jobseekers just showing up without having done that,” Rouse said. “If they’ve done that [visited the website or called], they’re pretty much guaranteed an interview, whereas if they just show up they’re not guaranteed an interview.”
Rouse said the incoming jobs are great for the Ottumwa community.
“There are a lot of opportunities, and a lot of them are in between entry level and some experience,” Rouse said. “It’s great for those people that are interested in part-time employment, like those going to school who want to work part time. There are a wide variety of jobs available.”
There are also benefits, Rouse said, such as competitive wages and benefits, paid training, flexible shifts, an employee stock ownership plan, immediate store discount, a friendly team-oriented work environment and 401(k).
Construction is progressing smoothly on the Kohl’s development.
Ottumwa City Engineer Dan Sturm said Wildwood Drive is slated to be finished by Wednesday, with the entire area project to be done by Sept. 1, “but it’s likely they’ll open it sooner than that.”
Sturm said seeding and final cleanup will be left to complete before the September completion date.
