DRAKESVILLE —
Gerald L. Forsythe, 91, of Drakesville, died from complications of cancer March 4, 2013, at the Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Appanoose County to Clarence Oren and Isal Cook Forsythe. He married Nina Humphreys Dec. 20, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo.
Gerald was a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church and was known for his involvement in numerous boards, committees, associations and other volunteer work. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge in Bloomfield and was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Forsythe; a son, Nolen (Linda) Forsythe of Oskaloosa; five daughters, Sandra (Glen) Hubbartt of Glen Carbon, Ill., Marcella (Tommy) Thompson, Teresa (Jack) Moss, Charlotte Forsythe, all of Bloomfield, and Linda (Melvin) Wilfawn of Fairfield; 15 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Norma Lee O’Brien and Barbara Cantrell, both of Drakesville; and a sister-in-law, Ida Piper of Drakesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Trenton Forsythe; a sister, Glennis Henderson; a great-granddaughter, Maiya Nabor; and a daughter-in-law, Kay Forsythe.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield; with Pastor Jack Knox officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Friday to greet friends at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Hospice of Wapello and Davis Counties and to Davis County First Resources.
