OTTUMWA —
Chester Keith Thomas, 79, of 838 Ellis Ave., died at 6:25 a.m. Feb. 25, 2013 at home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1933 in Floris to John and Laneta Hastings Thomas. He married Joyce Tull on Sept. 12, 1953.
He owned and operated Phillip 66 Station on West Second Street and then worked at Valley Supply. He worked for 27 years for John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1992.
Keith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce; his children, Sara (Donnie) Sanders of Ottumwa, Kathy (Charles) Newton of Bloomfield, John (Natalie) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Linda Gosser of Ottumwa, Neta (Tom) Simonton of McHenry, Ill., and Carol Jean (Brent Replogle) Smith of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard (Sandra) Thomas of Arkansas; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenny and Ronnie Thomas.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
