ELDON —
Curtis J. Wolf, 71, of Muscatine, formerly of Eldon, passed away Nov. 27, 2012.
Curtis J. Wolf was born on May 14, 1941, in Washington, the son of Bernard O. and Anna M. (Schmitt) Wolf.
He graduated from Eldon High School and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kingspoint, N.Y., in 1965. He worked as a maritime engineer and then for the Rock Island Railroad until it closed.
While Curt led a quiet life in later years, he was a world traveler. During his sea years, he docked in Hong Kong (where he purchased his transistor radio, which he still enjoyed listening to), Tokyo, Seoul, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bombay and Capetown, South Africa. He also visited London, Antwerp and Naples, Italy, where he saw the archeological excavation of Pompeii. He traveled through both the Panama and the Suez Canals. While in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he watched the Mardi Gras and climbed the steps to view the Christ the Redeemer statue. He attended the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and saw Jimi Hendrix perform in New Orleans. Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and many of the 48 states were also visited.
Curt enjoyed listening to music, painting, mushrooming, playing his guitar, feeding ducks at the park and hunting in his younger years. He liked to visit with his family and forever enjoyed the sights and sounds of geese flying overhead.
Curtis will be deeply missed by his brother, Clair Wolf of Washington; his sister, Connie Newton of Blue Grass; and several nieces and nephews.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Craig Wolf; and one sister, Carol Phillips.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Eldon Christian Church in Eldon. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery.
Visitation for Curtis will be one hour prior to the time of service Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be directed to the Muscatine Meals on Wheels Program in memory of Curtis.
Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
The Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services is caring for Curtis’s arrangements and his family.
May flights of angels surround him.
