ALBIA —
Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Jones, 89, of Albia, died Feb. 10, 2013, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia.
Betty was born July 13, 1923, to Lawrence and Margaret (Schmitz) McGinn in Weller. She married Charles Jones on Jan. 22, 1946, in Weller. To this union, four children were born, Jerry, Judy, Joe and Jim. Charles preceded Betty in death on Aug. 28, 2009.
Betty grew up in Weller and attended Sage Creek Country School. She later attended Albia High School. After school, she worked in Chicago, Ill., before moving back to Albia, where she worked at and retired from Chamberlain’s.
Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society in Albia. She enjoyed going to the casino, watching ball games, shopping and also quilting.
Betty is survived by two children, Judy (Pat Murphy) Rogers and Jim Jones, both of Albia; six grandchildren, Shane (Michelle) Holmes, Jessica (Joe) Carley, Cassie (Andrew) Ryken, Cody Jones, Michael (Haley) Kent and Brian Jones; four great grandchildren, Elexa, Dylon, Kaden and Carter; a sister, Maxine Loshe of Albia; and two brothers, Paul and Tom McGinn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charlie; two sons, Jerry and Joe; a sister, Mildred Richmond; and three brothers, Bill, Donald and Patrick McGinn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia; with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S., officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Weller.
Visitation will open at 4 p.m. Thursday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Betty’s family present from 6-8 p.m. A rosary will be led by St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society at 4 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established to the family.
