DRAKESVILLE —
Billy D. Bassett, 84, of Drakesville, died Feb. 8, 2013, at the Bloomfield Care Center in Bloomfield.
He was born Feb. 3, 1929, in Leon to Laurence and Bessie Maynard Bassett. He married M. Marlene Haines Aug. 22, 1952, in Drakesville. He served in the United States Navy during Korea. Billy was the postmaster in Drakesville and was a farmer. He was affiliated with the Drakesville United Methodist Church and was a member of Ottumwa Lodge No. 16 A.F. and A.M.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Jana (Vern) Bassett Walker of Moulton; two sons, Jeff (Shelly) Bassett, Jay (Betsy) Bassett both of Bloomfield; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ginger Gottula and Joann Bassett in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial with graveside military rites performed by Reed-Whisler Post No. 78 of the American Legion will be at the Drakesville Cemetery in Drakesville.
Visitation and Masonic services performed by Ottumwa Lodge No. 16 were held Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the Drakesville United Methodist Church and Davis County Dollars for Scholars.
