Elizabeth Hibbeler-Anderson, 82, Iowa City

IOWA CITY — Elizabeth Marie Hibbeler-Anderson, 82, of Iowa City, went home to our Lord Jan. 28, 2013.

Elizabeth “Betty” was born to Gustav and Julia Huf on Nov. 23, 1930, in Puerto Rico. Betty married O. Robert Hibbeler on Aug. 31, 1951, in Omaha, Neb., and had four children. They divorced in 1978. On Feb. 28, 1987, Betty and Theodore Anderson were married at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

At the age of 3, her family relocated to the Philadelphia area. She graduated from the Philadelphia Girls’ High School in 1949 and earned her Associate Arts Degree from Wagner College in 1951.

Betty worked with the University of Iowa Hospitals and later with A.C.T. of Iowa City in different support staff positions until her retirement in 2000.

Betty had been a loyal member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church for 40 years, since 1972, and was involved in Bible study groups, Women’s Circle groups and in earlier years, the adult choir. She was a loyal American and felt there was no better place on earth than the state of Iowa and the city of Iowa City.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years; four children, Megan Hibbeler of San Diego, Calif., Deborah White of Watertown, Wis., Stephen (Donna) Hibbeler of Medford, Wis., and Ruth Thomas of Ottumwa; her husband’s three children, Neil (DeeDee) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Meredith Anderson of Richmond, Ill., and Kurt Anderson of Fox Lake, Ill.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert Huf and Gustav Huf; and two grandsons, Zackry Thomas and Timothy Hibbeler.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 123 E. Market St., in Iowa City; with Pastor Dotzel officiating, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Iowa City.

Online condolences may be directed to www.lensingfuneral.com.
