DRAKESVILLE —
Paul W. Van Blaricom, 85, formerly of Drakesville, died at 6:05 a.m. January 28, 2013 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born January 28, 1928 in Centerville to Andy and Dorothy Thompson Van Blaricom. He married Ruby Householder on December 20, 1993. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2009.
Paul was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy.
He worked for John Morrell & Co. for 26 years until the plant closed in 1973. He started working for Loudens in 1976 retiring in 1993. Paul owned Van’s 66 gas station at the corner of Fourth St. and Highway 63.
He was a member of Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a driver for the Amish community for 12 years while living in Drakesville. Paul loved to play cribbage.
Surviving are his nine children, Karen (Wayne) Plowman of Indiana, Marilyn Adler of Fairfield, Paul L. (Joann) Van Blaricom of Fairfield, Larry (Donna) Van Blaricom of Bokeelia, FL, Bob (Teresa) Elmore of Ottumwa, Christy (Doug) Krusemark of Bloomfield, Lisa (Rick Conrad) Toomey of Agency, Jonathan Paul (Sherry) Van Blaricom of Ottumwa and Paula Swope of Ottumwa; 22 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Max (Beverly) Van Blaricome of Des Moines and a sister, Joann Young of Palouse, WA.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith and Roy Van Blaricome; eight sisters, Gwen Lehman, Nadine Ross, Fern and Paulette Van Blaricome, Beaulah Crowder, Lucille Ross, Julia Stout and Eva Shriver.
Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation.
