OTTUMWA —
Thomas L. Mitchell, 91, formerly of 2633 Marilyn Rd., died at 11:55 p.m. January 1, 2013 at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born February 27, 1921 in Rathbun to Louis and Louise Maletta Mitchell. He married Mary Teresa Fabritz on June 2, 1951. She preceded him in death on November 7, 2005.
A graduate of Rathbun High School, he was a World War II Army veteran. He worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 37 years.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas E. (Carol) Mitchell and Tim Mitchell both of Ottumwa, Mike (Lori) Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Jane (Dan) Evitts of Schaumburg, IL, Karen (Doug) Stookesberry, Ann Black and Kevin Black both of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Anne Chebuhar of Centerville.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Nicholas and Daniel Mitchell.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
A Christian Wake will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home followed by family visitation until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
