OTTUMWA —
Ardis Ann Evans, 85, of Ottumwa, died at 9 p.m. November 25, 2012 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born January 13, 1927 in Des Moines to William Raymond and Mary Lucille Peterson Hindal. She married William R. Evans on December 26, 1954 at the Capitol Hill Christian Church in Des Moines. He preceded her in death on August 3, 2009.
Ardis was a graduate of Des Moines East High School, Ottumwa Heights College and received her BA in education from Parsons College. She was an elementary school teacher for 20 years in the Ottumwa Community School system, having taught at Agassiz, James, Douma and Horace Mann.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ottumwa Education Association, the National Education Association, and Iowa T.T.T. Chapter Z. In 1990, the Bill & Ardis Evans Scholarship was established for a 6th grade boy and girl to be awarded annually at Indian Hills Community College.
Surviving are her children, Warren (Virginia) Evans of Ft. Worth, TX, Charles Evans of Orlando, FL, Janis (Roger) Koehn of Ottumwa, Bob (Leona) Evans of Prescott, AZ and Patty (John) Carruthers of Ottumwa; 9 grandchildren, Jeff and Bryan Evans, Kelli Mayall, Blake Evans, Amy Gay, Leah and Jared Zwer, Kassandra and Evan Carruthers; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gretchen Ledet and a brother, Paul Hindal.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Don Bramschreiber officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
