OTTUMWA —
Betty Jean Grothe, 77, of 11620 Rabbit Run Rd. Lot 71, went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2012 at her home.
She was born March 3, 1935 in Pittsburg, KS to Clyde and Mabel Babb Watson. She married Emil F. Grothe on April 4, 1952. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2010.
She had owned McFarland’s Café and had worked at the Pink Pig, Heady’s, J.B.’s, Town Talk Grill and Hotel Ottumwa.
Surviving are two sons, James “Ed” Grothe and Steve (Kim) Grothe both of Ottumwa; a daughter, Marsha (Scotty) Inman of Ottumwa; five grandchildren, Dana Upton who was raised by Betty and Emil, Steven Grothe, Tristan (Christa) Grothe, Mariah Ash and Jamie Ash; six great-grandchildren, the Grothe girls Jolie, Emily and Paige Grothe, Alice Arnold, Drew Arnold and Joshua Upton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Andy Grothe; a daughter, Libby Martin; three sisters, Hettie Dyke, Margaret Bankson and Peggy Robinson; a brother, Kenneth Watson.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ottumwa Cemetery.
Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
