ALBIA —
George Teno, 82, of Albia, died Nov. 10, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
George was born on Feb. 24, 1930, to Mike and Mary (Sisler) Teno on the farm in Avery. He married Helen Strasko on Oct. 18, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage and two sons, George and Steve.
George attended country school in Avery. He farmed all of his life. George also worked in carpentry with Jim Conley Sr. for 10 years. He then worked at Chicago Rivet for 30 years before retiring in 2008.
George was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed being outdoors doing things such as hunting, fishing and gardening. He raised sweet corn for God’s Portion Day in Georgetown. George enjoyed riding the four-wheeler to check the cattle and crops. He enjoyed working in general. George loved farming with his two sons and spending time with family and friends.
George is survived by his wife, Helen Teno of Albia; two sons, George Teno (Deb Peterson) and Steve (Pam) Teno, both of Albia; two stepgrandchildren, Jeremy (Steph) Bricker and Joe (Kim) Bricker; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryleigh and Logan. George is also survived by a brother, Joe Teno of Ottumwa.
George was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Tangie, Anna Arnold and Helen Teno; and two brothers, Mike and John Teno.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Albia; with Fr. Michael E. Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.
Visitation will open at 11 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with family present from 4-7 p.m. A rosary will be led at 4 p.m., provided by the Altar and Rosary Society, with a Christian wake service beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Albia.
