RICHLAND —
Everette R. Baker, 87, of Richland, died July 19, 2012, at Washington County Hospital in Washington.
He was born in Crawfordsville July 13, 1925, to Samuel A. and Fern May Baker and graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1942. He married Donna Mae Webe on March 17, 1950, in Keota. She died March 16, 2003.
Everette was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, worked for Ben Young farm market, farmed near Packwood, then moved to Richland in 1964, opened Bakers’ Sinclair in 1965, which became Baker Tire until he retired in 1987. Following his retirement, he continued to farm part time for Roger Harrington and Jerry Adrian. He was a member of SS. Joseph & Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland and was a lifelong member of both the VFW and American Legion Post No. 504 in Richland. He volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City for 10 years, accumulating 1,500 hours of service. Everette enjoyed making wine, working with his orange AC tractors, spending time with his friends, family and especially his grandchildren.
Everette is survived by two sons, Bryan of Richland and Bryce (Shelia) of Ames; three grandsons; a stepgranddaughter; and one brother, Don Baker of Farson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; brother, Ernie Baker; and three sisters, Juanitia Dickinson, Bessie Schlatter and Ruth Zieglosky.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mother Cabrini Church in Richland; with Rev. Robert Striegel officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at the church with the family present from 6-8 p.m. with Prayers for a Christian Wake at 7 p.m.
Memorials to Richland American Legion Post No. 504 for the Boys State Fund may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 301 W. Main, Richland, Iowa 52585.
