OTTUMWA —
Rick B. Kelderman, 57, of 119 N. Moore, died at 12:55 p.m. September 19, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born July 12, 1955 in East Chicago, IN, the son of Bert Kelderman and Donna Swensgaard Lamm. On June 26, 1996 he married Donna Millard.
He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a delegate twice as a Sea Scout to Washington, D.C. Rick served in the U.S. Army, spending 13 months in Korea during the Vietnam Conflict.
A graduate of Oskaloosa High School in 1974 and of Indian Hills Community College, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in sociology from William Penn University. He had worked as a paramedic and fire fighter and then worked for Hindman-Person Heating & Air Conditioning before his illness 15 years ago.
Rick was a member of O. B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs, spending time with friends and his beloved dog, Benny.
Surviving are his wife, Donna; a son, Casey (Yadira) Kelderman of Ottumwa; a step-son, Spencer (Sara) Shepard of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Wyatt Kelderman, Lily Shepard, Krystabel and Alex Renneberg; parents, Donna and Don Lamm of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Phillip (Kathy) Kelderman of Centerville; a sister, Serena Kelderman of Theodore, AL and several nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Bert Kelderman; a brother, Mike Kelderman; maternal grandparents, Albert and Margueritte Swensgaard; paternal grandparents, Bert and Rose Kelderman and his in-laws, Bob and Martha Millard.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Gentz officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
