Dale Dignin Sr., 80, Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — Dale L. Dignin Sr., 80, of 210 E. Division St., Neillsville, Wis., formerly of Ottumwa, died Feb. 12, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wis.

Dale was raised in Humbird, Wis., before entering the U.S. Navy in December 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict on USS Ashland (LSD-1).

While in the Navy, he met Donna Dowd of Ottumwa, and the couple later married on June 10, 1955, in Camden, N.J. When Dale was honorably discharged, he and his wife settled in Ottumwa, where he was employed by the city for 27 years.

When he retired, Dale was the maintenance supervisor for the Ottumwa Industrial Airport.

While in Ottumwa, he was a member of the VFW Post 775. Thirteen years ago, Dale wanted to return to Wisconsin, so he and Donna settled in Neillsville.

Dale will be deeply missed by Donna, his wife of 57 years; son, Dale Jr., “Lee” (Elizabeth) Dignin of Ottumwa; three daughters, Robin (Sam) Craven and Lezlea Findley, all of Ottumwa, Farron Dignin of Marshfield, Wis.; sister, Betty Jean Austin of Aubrey, Texas; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Ottumwa City Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Ottumwa VFW. Immediately following services, the family would like to invite family and friends to meet with them at the Ottumwa VFW.
