Samuel J. Wilcoxson, 84, of 120 Miller Road, Apt.14, died at 2:45 a.m. Feb. 15, 2013 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born Sept. 19, 1928 in Kirkville to Samuel J. and Ethel Chedister Wilcoxson. He married Maxine Benedict in November of 1952. She preceded him in death. He married Louise Palmer on June 3, 1989 in Detroit, Mich.
Sam had been a driver for more than 30 years for Schmidtgall Trucking Co., retiring in 1989.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
Surviving is his wife, Louise; a daughter, Sherry (LeRoy) Hanna of Ottumwa; a son, Samuel C. (Connie) Wilcoxson of Kansas City, Mo.; a step-son, Darrin Palmer of Bellville, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ervin Wilcoxson and Ed (Nigel) Wilcoxson, both of Ottumwa; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Marlow Wilcoxson and Bruce Lee Wilcoxson; a step-son, Kevin Palmer; a brother, Earl Wilcoxson; and a sister, Margaret Nupp.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church or Hospice serving Wapello and Davis Counties, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, Iowa 52501.
