Verl Jackson, 95, Batavia

BATAVIA — Verl O. ‘Whitey” Jackson, 95, of 1989 Batavia Rd., died at 2:30 a.m. September 12, 2012 at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa.

He was born July 17, 1917 in Pella to Henry A. and Leola Shearer Jackson. He married Juanita Streeby on September 26, 1936. She preceded him in death on August 22, 1998.

Verl farmed, and had operated a road grader for Wapello County secondary roads for 28 years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the People’s Church in Batavia.

Surviving are four daughters, Lois (Ron) Winner of Underwood, Nancy Jackson of Batavia, Kareen (Ron) Walters of Pierre Part, LA and Marijean Jackson of Batavia; a son, Verl (Judy) Jackson of Hedrick; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Verl Jackson; an infant daughter, Catherine Jackson; five brothers, Gene, Clair, Leonard, Glen and his twin, Merl Jackson; four sisters, Edith Knott, Minnie Withers, Fern Hawk and Helen Meier.

Graveside services and burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Eldon Cemetery with Rev. Danny Cary officiating.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials may be made to the McHaffey Opera House in Eldon.
