OTTUMWA —
Wilma Helen Davis, 89, longtime resident of Ottumwa, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Oskaloosa, IA. Wilma previously was a longtime resident of Pennsylvania Place in Ottumwa.
Wilma was born in Bannock, Ohio on December 10, 1923 to Julius and Rose Ur who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Nanticoke (Pennsylvania) High School. She worked at Squibb Pharmaceuticals in New Jersey when she met, and then married, Ottumwa native William “Bill” F. Davis in 1944. She called Ottumwa her home since 1945, even after 16 years in Colorado and Kansas. Bill preceded her in death in 1994. Also preceding her in death were sisters Rose and Muncie, and brothers Albert and Joseph.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Rouse (Dr. John); step-grandson, Dr. Jeffrey (Dr. Lisa) Rouse; three great- grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary and Jake Rouse, all of San Antonio, TX; her son, Kenneth (Ramona) Davis, grandson, Brent (Jolena) Davis, granddaughter, Brandy (Steven) Weir; and great-grandson, Spencer Davis Weir, all of Poulsbo, WA. Three nephews; one great-niece and two great-nephews also survive her.
Wilma devoted her life to her family and enjoyed volunteering. She was a member of the East End Presbyterian Church where she served on the Board of Deacons; Ottumwa AARP; Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary, Lord’s Cupboard and Ottumwa Firemen’s Auxiliary.
The family wishes to extend its deep appreciation to Wilma’s close friends; the staff and nurses at Northern Mahaska Nursing Center, Pennsylvania Place, Iowa Hospice, Care Initiatives Hospice and especially Drs. David North and Steven Ellison, for their care and compassion toward our mother.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Jane Martinez officiating. Burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery
Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Thursday. The family will be present one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to Wilma’s memory to Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary, Lord’s Cupboard, or the East End Presbyterian Church.
