OTTUMWA —
Theresa Ruth Foster, 88, of 606 E. Pennsylvania Ave., died at 1:10 p.m. October 31, 2012 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
She was born December 31, 1923 in Beaman, IA to Rev. J.J. and Ruth Cowie Snyder. She married Howard Charles Foster on July 19, 1944. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1994.
A 1941 graduate of Traer High School, she attended A.I.B. Theresa was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a pharmacist mate in the WAVES. She and her husband moved to a farm south of Ottumwa in 1949 where they farmed until their retirement.
She was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a member of United Methodist Women and Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary. Theresa taught Sunday school and had been a 4-H leader.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy Ann (Will) Reed of Sedalia, MO; a son, Charles Howard (Twila) Foster of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Cami (Tim) Nettekoven of Kansas City, MO, Joe (Kara) Foster of Urbandale; Lewis (Amy) Gerloff of La Vista, NE; and Dale Gerloff of Ottumwa; 11 great-grandchildren; a close friend, Harold Gipson and his family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Rev. George Snyder; a sister, Betty Frey; and a grandson, Chad Cable.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home with Rev. Leila Disburg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military services conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Shafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church Youth.
