OSKALOOSA —
Karen K. Mason-Carle, of Oskaloosa, died Feb. 23, 2013, at Mahaska Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
She was born in Unionville, the daughter of Carl Logan and Mildred Laola Allen Scott. Karen graduated from Moravia High School, and then A.I.B. in Des Moines. She was married to Richard Lee Mason in Moravia and later divorced.
Following A.I.B., Karen worked for a time at Bankers Life in Des Moines. Later, she worked in food service at William Penn College (now University) for many years, first as banquet manager and lastly was the assistant manager in food service. Later, she attended Iowa School of Beauty and was a beautician in Oskaloosa for about seven years, until retiring in 2001.
On June 26, 1999, Karen was united in marriage to James D. Carle in Oskaloosa. Karen delighted in her grandkids and loved Iowa Hawkeye athletics. She was a past member of Questers, University Wives at Penn and member of Third Reformed Church in Pella and of P.E.O., Chapter IO.
Her family includes her husband, Jim of Oskaloosa; her children, Michael Mason of Oskaloosa, Mary and Scott Robison of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Blaik Mason of Oskaloosa; eight grandchildren, Jacob and Kate Mason, William, Nehemiah and Hannah Robison and Aidan, Brennan and Chloe Mason; a brother and his wife, Randy and Karen Scott of Pauls Valley, Okla.; her favorite sister and her husband, Karla and Russell Hamme of rural Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bates Funeral Chapel; with Rev. Kevin Korver officiating. Private family burial will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at the funeral chapel with family present from 5–7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice Serenity House.
