OTTUMWA —
Teresa Marie Lawson, 84, of 1212 Grant, died at 11:27 a.m. March 12, 2013 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born September 17, 1928 in Melrose to Earle and Cecilia Ward Parks. She married Charles R. Lawson on July 20, 1956.
Teresa was a 1947 graduate of Melrose High School, and had attended the Iowa Success School. She worked in Red Oak making batteries, and from 1951 to 1960 she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone. She was a full time mother to her children.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. She enjoyed golfing and was a two time champion at Ottumwa Municipal Golf Course and a winner of the Elks Golf Tournament. Teresa enjoyed playing cards, especially Cribbage, loved to cook and was an Indian Hills sports fanatic.
Surviving is her husband, Chuck; three daughters, Linda Lawson and Laura (Randy) Owens both of Ankeny, Lisa (Wade) Bassett of Albia; a son, Mick (Joni) Lawson of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren, Maria, Joseph, Anthony, Alicia, Brice, Miranda, Brenden, Hayley, Danae, Callie and Morgan; 7 great-grandchildren, Breanna, Quentin, Natalie, Elija, Bailey, Jack and Gracei; and a sister, Patricia (Durwood) Bush of Chesapeake Beach, NH.
She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Angeline Paveglio, Elizabeth Burke, James Parks, Robert Parks, Raymond Parks, Mary Carocci, Celia Spears and Rose Rice.
Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. Cremation will follow the mass. Inurnment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by family visitation until 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to Indian Hills Community College Foundation.
