OTTUMWA —
Valena B. Stevens Bayne, 102, of Ottumwa, died at 3:40 a.m. August 20, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
She was born September 12, 1909 in Wapello County, IA to Joe and Doris Harris Howard. She married Ike Stevens. He preceded her in death April 4, 1972. She married Glenn Bayne on January 1, 1985. He preceded her in death on October 2, 1997.
A resident of Ottumwa most of her life, she had worked in the ready to wear department at S.S. Kresge’s for 20 years.
Valena had been a member of First Church of the Nazarene, and is presently a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene. She had taught Sunday school for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Clayton (Lelia) Stevens of Bovey, MN and Bill (Bev) Stevens of Farmington; a step-daughter, Marilyn Sieren of Hedrick; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Joe, Doug and Richard Stevens; a brother, Jim Howard; two granddaughters, Gail Lynn Stevens and Teresa Jo Stevens; four sisters, Eldora Clary, Laura McCarty, Grace Johnson and Ruth Graham; and a step-son, Jackie Bayne.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Eigsti officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene or The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
