OLLIE —
Virginia Roop, 99, of Sigourney, formerly of Ollie, passed away Aug. 16, 2012, at the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney.
She was born Oct. 7, 1912, in Unionville, Putnam Co., Mo., the daughter of Joe and Hettie Adams Conger. Virginia was united in marriage on Oct. 1, 1932, to Loyal Roop.
She graduated from Packwood High School in 1929 and attended AIB college in Des Moines. Virginia and Loyal farmed together for many years northwest of Ollie. Then in 1992 they moved into Ollie. Virginia loved her family and being involved in their lives. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and baking pies, which she always shared with her family. Virginia was a former member of Grandmother’s Club and the Eastern Star.
Virginia is survived by her children, Barbara (Warren) Peterson of Dubuque; Martha (Keith) Fritchen, Jon (Jean) Roop, Julie (David) Bailey and Elaine (Keith) Blair, all of Ollie; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Jeffrey Bailey; three sisters; and a brother.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ollie Baptist Church, Ollie; Rev. Karla Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in the Halferty Cemetery near Richland.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to the time of service on Tuesday at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for the Ollie Baptist Church or the Pekin Dollars for Scholars.
